SSR International Airport Will Be Completed In 24 Months

The challenge is to complete the infrastructure work in 24 months. The main objective is to attract tourists, investors and other international operators who will be important meshes to double the economy of Mauritius in the next two years.

The laying of the foundation stone on the site of the new Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in March 2010 was to make a major change in the infrastructural landscape by combining science, art and design to finally transform the current terminal, into a traveler's tree.

However, this goal can only be achieved by taking the good initiatives to establish the necessary arrangements in the field of service in order to make the flow of arrivals and departures more favorable.

For the Chief Executive Officer of Airports of Mauritius, the investment to modernize the airport is estimated at Rs 10 billion, and he said that the tree of the traveler would be more attractive through the services

The national airline, in addition to this significant project which has a major help in terms of finance of China, also focuses on training of reception staff. They conducted an initial training of their staff last year, and now they focus on the second stage

In parallel, the CEO of AML said that the airline has now two restaurants to better serve passengers and the public. Initially, only the restaurant Tropical Times ensured the necessary services to the public for 10 years. Especially they want to introduce the competition and they have launched a call for tenders for those who wish to improve the service of restoration. The call for tenders were held in transparency, launched in the 24th of December 2009 and was closed on the 29th of January the following year. Following the call, a response of seven bidders was recorded. After the evaluation, they selected two best offers, namely Tropical Times and Airway Coffee. The services offered by these providers meet the quality expectations of AML

The interlocutor recalled that it was through the professionalism and other positive changes that on the 7 July, the SSR International airport of Mauritius was awarded the price of Leading Airport, at the ceremony of World Travel Awards in Johannesburg.

Aware of their responsibilities that must be implemented to provide better service to customers, the CEO of AML said that they have their plans to increase to 38 the number of counters at the start, using a Post Check-In Screening which will free space at the departure lounge and also accelerate the process of recording bag. Moreover, they intend to renovate and beautify many areas of the passenger terminal and create an additional parking area that would double the parking capacity for 1200 vehicles. In addition to the new terminal, AML has a new tank that has a capacity of two million liters of water. This project will cost Rs 41 million, began in October 2009 to be completed this month. This new tank will improve their water supply in the future. It is only through the development that AML and the Government will maintain the SSR International Airport in the international race.

The airport will soon be transformed into a traveler's tree and would undoubtedly be an advanced architectural breakthrough for the region and an iconic identity for the Republic of Mauritius.
